I have had continual problems with my Raymarine A65 finder/gps. I guess I’d be a bit more upset if they hadn’t given it to me to evaluate. Its now an endangered species for Raymarine and its standard antenna isn’t capable of picking up WAAS satelites so its accuracy is less than it could be. At any rate last year the unit went totally out on me and I took it to Phantom Marine down here on Point Loma. They are the recommended Raymarine option here. I was antsy because I was mid season last year and NEEDED the unit or a replacement ASAP. They got me a total replacement in three days, something they were able to achieve at least partly because of their favored status with Raymarine.
After having recurring problems with the unit this summer and fighting through it I finally brought the unit down to them again and by that same afternoon they called to tell me it was likely the crappy antenna that the unit came with so I brought it down for them to test and by the next morning they called me back and said it was definitely the antenna. They upgraded me to the WAAS capable antenna (RS125 which extends the units accuracy tremendously) and then made the necessary connection from the new antenna wire to the old connector (the new antenna comes connector-less) AND got it to me for less than I found it for on line.
The whole process took them two days basically to return to me. That’s great turn around. They do know I run a charter business but I think they try to keep that level of service for everyone not just those few of us using the gear for a living.
If you’re down here in San Diego and you have marine electronics that need futzin’ around with, I can’t recommend these guys highly enough. The also have a shop up in Newport Beach but I cannot speak to its level of customer service.
