Had a good day mako fishing, but as I was cleaning my boat at the dock I swear to God that two guys came in with a 30-pound bluefin they caught just outside the 9!!!!!!!  big surprise They saw others, but could only get the one. I got a feeling something is about to happen here!!!

That’s a great sign. I hope we get a decent run this year. I got a yellowfin last week, but we had to run south….way south (CSL!).

We went o-for on the makos saturady but the water looked great. Conway, Thanks for the info you gave Al Q,  this will help us the next time we’re out. Stuck a few the weekend before. A lot of drama at the boat when you’re fishing alone and trying to release a hot fish with a subpar release stick. Seems I just kept sticking it in the face and pissing him off. I swear he wanted a peice of me when I finally got him unbuttoned. I’ll be out Friday and Saturday trying to take advantage of the big tide swing. First I’ll head to the islands of LJ and make some chum (Cuda, bonita, big macks) then off to a high spot. I hope you find the bluefin that would be amazing on a flyrod.

randy

gald you and AQ got out and gave it a go the other day. my advice is ...” don’t fish makos alone” they are very dangerous and trying to release on alone is very dicey to say the least.  I’ll be out on thursady i’ll give you the report wwhen i get in

Just remember that there are two yellowtail tourneys on Saturday with nearly 300 boats registered to fish between them. I’ll be out Thursday and Saturday, but heading south looking for kelp paddies and signs of BFT. I expect to cover lots of water. Water temps are finally breaking west of the Nads, even as far out as the Butterfly, so with a big group on Saturday I expect to be going long.

Conway hope you and Al Q have a good day Thursday!

Thanks for the info and advice. I hope you and Al do well. The next time I think if I can’t get an easy release I’ll just cut the line. 8/0 barbless hook should come out easily I suspect.
