I’m fishing Saturday but i don’t know where yet. I’m thinking of cuda off LJ or makos at the 9. Anyone else have plans? I almost want to throw down and head to SCI but I don’t think the topwater bite is reliable enough yet. The Nads look like they are going to get hammered again and I want to avoid the cattle boat cowboys for awhile. At least at LJ you dont have far to go if it turns out to be a parking lot. Any suggestions?

I’ve been boatless for several years now, (happiest day of my life when I sold that money pit!) so I’ll be working the beach pretty good Sat AM at least. FWIW, I agree things seem a little dicy to be spending the time and $$ heading outside or to SCI. If I were boating, I’d most likely give LJ a good hard look, then TP, then end the day off MB. I’ve got coords for a sweet spot off the sw corner of LJ I’ll dig up if I can find them. MY gps is in storage and not easy to access, but I have the spot written down somewhere too. This spot has never failed me and I’ve never had to compete with cattle there. I’ve caught cudas, lings, calicos, trees, sand bass, & YT there, on conventional gear. I bet flies would do well. It’s a slope, about 80’ deep running in to about 40’ deep. If I can find the #s I’ll pm you with them. If not, I may be able to describe how to find it.

I know this is “beyond” the breakwater, but no one seems to mind a boatless ‘ho like me participating, so far at least. Good luck this weekend everyone!

I’ll be out quite a bit next week, but not this weekend. Remember to avoid Mission Bay Sunday due to the Marathon. I would say that south is a better bet than West at this time because there are still strong reports that fish are very specifically targeting squid out there. Shouldn’t be long though. I’ll be heading well out on Monday, toward the 60 mile bank where I’ve heard reports of bluefin (there and well south) but hoping that perhaps the US waters will not get netted the way it will down south. YTs are apparently showing up more and more from the 425 to the 302 up to the 182, plus by the time you are headed back you can swing by the 178 and look for Makos. I got three in 3 hours last week, plus one blue shark and we lost another blue that would have been a woman’s world record on 20-pound tippet that made a text book bait-and-swtch. Got some good info that the WSB are biting off the NW corner of LJ though. That’s an easy one, too. Look around the NW corner and then push out to the 100fathom drop for makos… you never know.
