Well, The Plane tickets have been purchased, the Rental car is arranged and a Place to sleep and shower at are being arranged… I’m heading to Montauk Oct. 1st thru the 7th… YEAH!!!!

I’ve been given Pattern recommendations by Dave W., who’s from that area (And is going as well).. But would like to get other’s Input as to effective patterns to fish around that area… One day we’ll be out in a Boat targeting False Albies… but mostly We’ll be doing the shore thing for Stripers and Bluefish.. (I Know this forum is Offshore oriented, but I figure there’s Folks here who’ve fished the beaches of that area as well)

Sooooo, I’d be soo grateful for Pattern recommendations, and any helpful Hints to make this trip a Blast…

a Big Thank You in advance….

From my experiences up there and with those species in general the usual suspects work well. One of the best all around baitfish patterns is a Mushmouth. Skok developed them for fishing there specifically. Clousers work, as do half-n-halfs. Deceivers and what they refer to as grocery flies—big bunker patterns in case bunker is around. Poppers are awesome on bluefish. Color is irrelevant. I don’t think I ever did anything special. Colors I used were normal—Chartreuse/white, all white, blue/white, red/white, red/yellow, green/white, black, etc. IF you get into blues, think disposable flies, or synthetics.

Check Dave Skok’s web site www.dwskok.com

Maybe we can get Nick to respond if he’s up to it since he’s fished that area for the past 8 years.

Thanks Scott… Seems Everyone mentions about the Same thing as far as Patterns go… Thank you for the Link to Skoks.. I’ve read about his Patterns a number of times and His Site will prove most helpful…

I was thinking of Contacting “Uncle Nick” and get input from him as well….

Again, Thank you Scott…

somtimes the fish are on small rainbait and wont take the larged baits. I used whitey for this and it worked.
