Offshore Fly-fishing Seminar July 31Event Start: Sat, 31 Jul 2010, 10:00 AM
Event End  : Sat, 31 Jul 2010, 03:00 PM ![]() If you've ever thought about trying saltwater fly-fishing for tuna/ yellowtail/ dorado, here's your chance to check it out! Floyd Sparks (Tuna Kahuna) and I are putting on a FREE "Offshore Fly-fishing for Private Boaters" seminar at Bluewater Tackle / San Diego Fly Shop in Solana Beach on Saturday, July 31 (address below). There are going to be two sessions: Session Details... You can bring your own gear for the lesson, or not. We're going to have demo saltwater fly rods (provided by Temple Fork Outfitters), so you can take the lesson and practice casting using the type of gear you'd use offshore (none of this trout stuff!). TFO Pro Staffer Capt. Scott Leon will also be available to answer questions about the gear. If we're lucky, Scott will have some of the new TFO Gary Loomis-designed light CONVENTIONAL saltwater rods available for you to cast as well. These are really sweet swimbait/slug/plug rods for line up to 25lb test. In Session II, we'll have a brief classroom session covering equipment and fly selection, retrieves, striking and fighting fish, then move outside to go over boat setup (I'll have my boat there). Then it's back inside, where Floyd will be leading an informal round-table discussion / whiteboard talk on rigging your gear, and how you would fly-fish typical Private Boater situations: fly-fishing off a jig strike, fly-fishing kelp paddies, working porpoise and birds with a fly rod. Again, this is FREE, and you can come to either or both sessions. Ths is mainly targeted towards Private Boaters who already fish offshore with conventional gear, but everyone is welcome! If you get a chance, call/email/pm me to let me know you're coming, so we can get an approximate headcount. Also, feel free to call, e-mail, or PM me if you have any questions.
