Results & Analysis:
2010 3Bs Tournament
The 2010 Beyond The Breakwater 3Bs Tournament was held on June 12, 2010 out of Mission Bay. Twenty-six contestants from all over California fished the waters from Long Beach (yes, you read that correctly) down to Imperial Beach and the Coronados.
Big swells, red tide and strong winds greeted their efforts, but a few teams managed to find fish, almost exclusively calico bass. Like last year, there were a lot of shorts, but there were enough "keepers" to allow some decent scores. This article has the final results, and discusses the tackle and techniques used by the top finishers.

The Captain Courageous Award:
This prize is not given out every year. It is awarded to a contestant or team that exhibited an unusually large amount of moxie or just flat-out craziness (in a good way, of course) during the competition.
In year 1, this award went to John Dumlao, who had never saltwater fly-fished before, but bought a saltwater fly outfit, entered the tournament anyway, and won the FOPS division!
This year's winner of the Captain Courageous award was Team Zugbug41 - Mel, Sean and Scott Willis
They entered the competition in Mel's 16' driftboat, but because they used an 8hp outboard, had to compete in the Powerboat division. Mel wanted to row, but "the Kids" (Sean and Scott) insisted on using the outboard...
Furthest Travelled Award:

Jeff is probably thinking
"Thank God it's not
a BP gift card!"
This prize is awarded by a random drawing among all competitors travelling more than 75 miles one-way to fish the tournament (based on Google® Maps distance from their address of record to Dana Landing Market). This year 16 of the 26 competitors qualified for the drawing. We even had two contestants from Northern California - Sacramento and Santa Rosa, to be exact.
And the winner was... Jeff Patterson (175 miles, one way), who took the train down from Camarillo, CA.
Ironically, this year's prize was a $50 Exxon/Mobil gas card.
