Tomaso's Jetty Fly Sharpen hook and crush barb if desired. Mount hook and attach dumbbell eyes approx. 3/8” from 60° bend. (3/0 hook shown)
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Wrap thread base back to position above barb. Tie in 4 to 10 strands of flash material by folding over thread so that it will be locked in position. The flash material should be slightly shorter than the tail on the finished fly. It can be trimmed later if necessary.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Cut a piece of zonker strip to desired length. Trim fur along the end section about the length from the eyes to the end of the thread base.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Tie in zonker strip.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Tie in and wrap Estaz along hook shank, leaving about a 3/16” space to tie in silicone hackle.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Tie in silicone hackle by placing it along top and taking a couple of loose wraps to spin the legs around the shank. If necessary, use your fingers to help distribute the material evenly. Secure the hackle with three or four tight wraps.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Grasp silicone strands, pull to rear and take several tight wraps in front of the strands to secure and help force them back. Use a piece of pipe cleaner or twist tie to secure hackle strands out of the way.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Tie in a chenille head, making crisscross wraps through the eyes. Make sure to leave enough room on the hook shank to tie in snag guard.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Cut a 3” to 4” piece of single strand wire for the snag guard. Fold one end into a ‘U’ shape about 3/16” long. The ‘U’ will keep the guard from twisting once mounted. Bend wire up from ‘U’ at about a 120° angle as shown.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Tie in snag guard in front of chenille over a thread base. Take a couple of initial wraps through the ‘U’ to help secure it in place so it won’t pull out. A drop of super glue will help keep it locked in place.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Wrap a thread head, completely covering the end of the snag guard.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly Tie off thread, and trim. Cut off excess wire and bend to shape. Cement the head.
Tomaso's Jetty Fly The finished fly.
