Sea Level Fly Fishing's Bluewater Extreme Fly Rods

Sea Level Fly Fishing Adventures

Sea Level Fly Fishing's Bluewater Extreme fly rods are a good fit for Beyond The Breakwater fly-fishing. Here's our review...
Introduction   Basic Specs   A Closer Look   Performance Notes   Other Notes & Conclusions

The small size of the Extreme rod sections makes for easy transport (don’t forget - they’re only 8’ long, but 4 piece!). Depending on the airline, they could potentially fit into a carry-on bag, but check with your carrier before showing up at the airport.

The triangular rod cases are also a bit oversize – they’re large enough to fit two rods into a single case if necessary, which allows you to pack a second fly rod, or a multi-piece conventional stick.

When you travel with several rods, you’ll probably wind up with sections from different rods intermingled in a rod bag, or stacked in the corner of a shower at the end of the day when you clean off your gear. If you own several models of rods from the same manufacturer, it can be tough to tell which section goes with which rod. However, since the Extremes have the line weight marked on each section, it’s easy to keep their pieces sorted out. A neat little touch.

And in conclusion...

If you like a shorter rod, Sea Level Fly Fishing Adventure’s Bluewater Extreme series are a good choice for BTB fly-fishing. They have the right set of features, are good performers, and at $320-$350 MSRP, they offer good value.

They’re real workhorses that do a great job of coercing fish to come to the boat, and compare very favorably with similar rods from other manufacturers. We like them, and if you’re in the market for a BTB fly rod, they are worth a close look.

You can buy them directly from Sea Level Fly Fishing Adventures, or from our friends at The Fishermen’s Spot in Van Nuys
