In our earlier article “Does Size Matter?” we discussed the advantages and disadvantages that short fly rods offer BTB fly fishermen. We also reviewed three 8’ or shorter rods: the Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) 8/10 Mini-Magnum, the TFO 7’6” TiCR X 8wt, and the Sage 330 grain BASS Series.
When we posted the article, we noted that Sea Level Fly Fishing Adventures had announced a full line of 8’ rods specifically designed for offshore fly-fishing, and that we were trying to get a couple of rods for testing.
Shortly thereafter, Ray Hutcherson at SLFFA was kind enough to provide us with a couple of his new Bluewater Extreme fly rods to test for the summer. And thanks to some late-season yellowtail and yellowfin tuna, we were able give them a good workout.
