2009 3Bs Tournament
The 2009 Beyond The Breakwater 3Bs Tournament was held on June 27, 2009. Twenty-five contestants from all over the Southland fished the waters around La Jolla, down to the Coronados. They found lots of fish, including calico bass, barracuda, and large Pacific greenback mackerel. Most of the fish caught were bass that were just short of the qualifying size for the tournament, but there were a few 15-19" fish caught, and the barracuda reported were all over 28". This article has the final results, and discusses the tackle and techniques used by the top finishers.

Total scorable fish: 58 (54 bass, 4 barracuda)
Average scorable bass length (tournament qualifying length: 13"): 14.3"
Average scorable barracuda length (tournament qualifying length: 28"): 33.5"
A conservative estimate for total number of bass caught across all contestants is 200+ fish, a good percentage of which were over the DFG minimum length of 12", but just short of the tournament limit of 13".
Long Drive Award:
This award is given to the contestant who came the longest distance to fish the tournament (based on Google® Maps distance from their address of registration to Dana Landing Market).
The winner was: Rob Baldwin (155 miles, one way), who also won last year...
