As you can see, trolling is not a brainless sport, by any means. Instead of casting with a rod and reel, you are using the boat and other tools to present the lures to the fish. You have to show the same attentiveness and perseverance to catching fish on the troll that you would casting a fly. And in some ways, it can actually be more challenging than fly-fishing.

So...while fly-fishing is probably your preferred way to fish, don't short-change yourself. A good knowledge of trolling techniques is essential to success offshore. Go do it!
