Tying Instructions

Step Instructions (click on photos to see a larger image)
1 Al Quattrocchi's Electric Deceiver Tie in a clump of bucktail towards rear of the shank. Press it down so the material is distributed 360 degrees around shank. Add flashabou on top, and let the flashabou extend past the tips of the tail. Add another layer of bucktail, clipping butts to form a taper. Bind down and cement.
2 Al Quattrocchi's Electric Deceiver Take some mylar tubing, and measure off a section that extends from a bit past the bend of the hook to the front of the tie-in point of the bucktail. Cut off a piece twice as long.
3 Al Quattrocchi's Electric Deceiver Run the hook through the center of the mylar tubing. Tie it down at the front of the bucktail, at roughly the midpoint of the tubing. Leave the part of the tubing in front of the tie-in point slightly shorter than the section behind the tie-in point. Unravel the tubing so the strands splay out from both sides of the tie-in point.
4 Al Quattrocchi's Electric Deceiver Fold back the mylar in front of the tie-in point. Add a few wraps in front to keep the mylar in place.
5 Al Quattrocchi's Electric Deceiver Repeat Steps 2 - 4 as you work your way forward.
6 Al Quattrocchi's Electric Deceiver Use shorter and shorter pieces of mylar as you work towards the front of the fly. This will help taper the profile.
7 Al Quattrocchi's Electric Deceiver Trim all the crazy mylar ends to shape the profile. Color the mylar with a waterproof marker if desired, and use Goop to glue on eyes if desired. Finish the head of the fly with epoxy or TufFleye.
