When fishing beyond the breakwater, your boat is an essential a tool - almost as important as your rod and reel. But truth be told, most coastal and offshore boats are not set up very well for fly-fishing.

Coastal and offshore fly-fishing is already hard enough. As mentioned in our earlier article "Why isn't Saltwater Fly-Fishing More popular in Southern California?", fly-fishing has some fundamental handicaps when it comes to fishing BTB. Why make your life harder by fighting the boat?

This article focuses on some of the finer points of setting up and using your boat for salt water fly-fishing. We'll talk about line management, boat layout, gizmos and bling, and some concluding thoughts.
