The Inmates Running the Asylum:

Who We Are...

John Loo John Loo (Publisher, Editor-in-Chief, Webmaster)
John has been involved in Southern California saltwater fly-fishing for over 30 years. He tied saltwater flies commercially while in college in the 70s, and has written occasional pieces for "Fly Fisherman", "Fly Fishing in Salt Waters", and "California Fly Fisherman" magazines. He is a 30-year Information Technology veteran whose background includes technical, line- and senior- management positions in software development, systems architecture, and operations.

An avid boater and offshore fisherman, John launched the website "Ocean Skiff Journal" (OSJ) in May, 2006, to service the information needs of people who fish offshore in small boats. In the spring of 2007, OSJ received the "Best Website of 2006" award from the Outdoor Writers Association of California.

Frustrated by the lack of interest in Southern California saltwater fly-fishing by the national magazines, John launched "Beyond The Breakwater" to provide a forum for people interested in the opportunities that exist in the waters off Southern California. In Spring 2009, "Beyond The Breakwater" won the "Best Website of 2008" award from the Outdoor Writers Association of California.
